Five Ways to Stay on Track During Summer Vacation

If you didn't already know, I'm a runner and one of my favorite things to do on vacation is to explore a new place by running it. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track towards your health and wellness goals while on vacation:

  • Bring everything you need and normally use to complete your preferred workout. IE: workout clothes, running shoes, yoga mat, weights, fitness plan, headphones, hat, running belt etc.
  • Make a plan before you leave for vacation - if you've already signed up and paid for a class, know where you're going to do your fitness routine, know your route or the number of miles you want to complete each day, you are much more likely to accomplish it.
  • Recruit a friend or partner!
  • One of my favorite parts of vacationing is enjoying the local cuisine. We typically eat out once a day, which is a time when I will likely deviate from my typical diet, the other 2 meals of the day I will do my best to maintain my normal diet including a fat, fiber, protein and green with each meal. Also, having a kitchenette where you are staying can be helpful with maintaining more normal eating habits.
  • Book an Air B and B or hotel where you can walk to many of your destinations - this not only will allow you to explore more of the area you are in, but it will keep you physically active all day!
