July Newsletter - Practice What You Preach

Jul 01, 2020

A friendly reminder to myself as things continue to shift in the face of this pandemic. As we adjust to this new normal, I find myself feeling a bit unstable.

I always told myself that my social media platform and business outreach would not be a false representation of my life, a highlight reel or something that wasn't true. I often find myself caught between sharing too much, withdrawing due to lack of creativity or not wanting to share in fear that it comes off as complaining or from a negative state of mind.

I'm not complaining and my platform won't be a highlight reel; it will be a true representation of life, the business, what it means to be a mama to two girls while simultaneously maintaining a healthy marriage, nursing role, and pursuing life in a way that feels true to who I am.

I don't have it all figured out. One of my clients made this sort of statement to me the other day and I had to correct her. Yes, I am grateful, happy, motivated and proactive about my health but I also struggle, deal with lack of motivation, cry, and feel so down and hopeless some days. I don't have it all figured out, but what I do have figured out is that part of living life true to who I am means putting my health and happiness first. Although some days I feel alone, sad or down, I know these feelings are universal and we all experience them. With that reality, it gives me peace of mind and strength to talk about it.

If I'm being honest, my feelings and emotions have varied a lot recently - I'm sure you feel similarly. Whether it be due to postpartum hormones, pandemic fatigue or just due to the chaotic world we live in, I have felt unstable. With this instability, I have observed a slip of my nutrition - a bit more sugar, a shift in my sleeping pattern - later to bed and later waking up and less intentional time.

Well, here I am today, holding the mirror up ... it's time to practice what I preach.

I'm minimizing my sugar intake, going to bed earlier and I'm being mindful of my social media consumption.

The thing about it is, it doesn't have to be perfect. We all have moments where our efforts slip, we don't have the drive or motivation or we just need some time to breathe. It's okay to take that time. What's important and the thing to keep in mind is your resilience: how long it takes you to get back into your good habits. How quickly you can bounce back when you fall down.

If you find yourself in a state where you have fallen down, it's okay. Give yourself some grace and start picking yourself back up. It's time, one step at a time. I'm here. I see you. I'm cheering for you! You've got this.
